Up early this morning working on my almost-finished book for guitar teachers, which I’m tentatively calling Rob’s Totally Awesome Guitar Teaching Handbook.
Yesterday I came up with this introduction to a section on teaching your students to play safely (I mean avoiding tendinitis, not avoiding spearing their bass player with a Flying V) by taking frequent breaks:
Was the summer I bought my first six-string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it ‘til my fingers bled
Was the summer of ’69
Bryan Adams, “Summer of ‘69”Three years later I got my first flare-up
Got it rocking all night through
Now I’m stuck singing backup vocals
Was the bummer of ‘72
The Missing Verse
Update: The Handbook is now available for purchase here.

I like the parody!
As a teacher myself, I tell my students not to overdo it as well especially when they are new players.

Isn’t that Bryan Adams’ tune?

I hope I am not being dense, but didn’t Bryan Adams do Summer of 69?
Either way, I love the idea of what you wrote!

I think you’re confusing ‘Summer of 69′, what Brian Adams recorded, with ‘Boys of Summer’, what was recorded by Don Henley!

not Don Henley - Bryan Adams !

That’s great! I’ve been taking fish-oil tablets because I read they were good for the joints and they seem to have helped.
Also, isn’t “Summer of ‘69″ by Bryan Adams?

Wow, it’s great to see people actually read this blog!
I am a dork. I was confusing “Summer of ‘69″ with “Boys of Summer.” Correction made.

The idea is very good. Good luck!

Doesn’t always happen when your actually playing guitar. I pulled on my cars emergency brake too hard when it wasn’t set.
It felt like I pulled my hand apart.
I had to take a month off from guitar and its still touchy. but it’s getting better all the time.
Daily stretching and massage to keep everything loose and limber helps me - I learn the hard way every so many months.
My chiropractor says ice water baths - it seems to work too.
