Haute Route Trip Report

Day 0

Base camp for our trip was Argentiere, a little French town just east of bigger, busier, more shopping-mall-like Chamonix.  I fell in love with Argentiere.  It was both beautiful and convenient--there was a bank and market across the street from our humble, comfortable hotel, and a wonderful restaurant called La Flambe next door, staffed by incredibly combustible waitresses.

The view from my hotel window.

Tomorrow's ski took us up a telepherique to the Aiguille des Grandes Montets, which is just out of view to the right.  We descended the right side of the valley in the center of the photo, crossed the Glacier d' Argentiere, then climbed up the Col du Chardonnet in the center of the photo, below the peak.
