What's the Coffee Shop Jam?

The Coffee Shop Jam, held twice a year in the spring and fall, is an opportunity for my guitar students, Mark DiFlorio's drum students, and Brady Millard-Kish's bass students to perform in a relaxed, fun environment. It’s part recital, part open mic, and part Stones concert. Needless to say, it’s a blast.

We organize the Jam guided by five principles:

  • Having Fun
Playing music is all about spreading joy.

  • Providing a Memorable, Meaningful Experience
When everything's going right, live music can be a transcendent experience for both performers and audience members. We want to make that happen.

  • Sustainability
We want the Jam to flourish for years to come.

  • Real-World Experience
The Jam gives students a little taste of what professional gigging musicians experience.

  • Motivation
The promise of glory on the stage is a great motivator for polishing those chops.
