Search Engine Optimization Tips
Why Optimize Your Site?
I’m sure you’re aware that Googling is the new global pastime. People use search engines to find auto mechanics, doctors, even that ex-girlfriend who dumped them in high school. If you live in or near a metropolitan area, there are probably dozens of people there searching for guitar lessons every day. Have you ever wondered what would happen to your site’s traffic if it ranked at the top of Google’s search results?
Imagine the Grand Coulee Dam exploding. It’s something like that.
There are also probably dozens of guitar teachers competing for that traffic. But for whatever reason, most guitar teachers dislike computer technology and don’t advertise on the web. The few that have websites don’t know how to attract search engines. This is a great opportunity. Follow these steps, or hire a website designer, and your roster could be full for the rest of your life.
What kind of traffic am I talking about? Here’s a sample of average traffic for the search phrase “(city) guitar lessons”:
|Keyphrase||Average Monthly Traffic|
|San Diego guitar lessons||480|
|Boston guitar lessons||390|
|Seattle guitar lessons||390|
|Chicago guitar lessons||320|
|London guitar lessons||210|
|Austin guitar lessons||170|
|Dallas guitar lessons||170|

If you consider all the other search terms people might use (“LA” instead of “Los Angeles,” “guitar teacher” instead of “guitar lessons”), the actual interest in guitar lessons in these cities is many times greater. If you live in a reasonably big town, and can attract even a small fraction of your town’s searches for guitar instruction, you’ll be living large.
